Work Packages (WPs)
EXPLORA is structured into nine work packages, each targeting critical technical, management, and ethical aspects of the project.
Sampling & Legal Frameworks
This WP develops advanced sampling technology for extreme environments and ensures full compliance with international legal frameworks, specifically the Antarctic Treaty and the Nagoya Protocol.
Microbial Assessment & Databases
Focused on the cultivation of extremophiles and the creation of an omics-based database to map biodiversity and metabolic potential.
Computational Bioprospecting
Utilizes AI and machine learning to identify and predict the functions of novel enzymes and biomolecules for industrial use.
Biomolecule Production & Purification
Dedicated to the isolation, biotechnological production, and structural characterization of antioxidants, antimicrobials, and plastic-degrading enzymes.
Safety & Industrial Validation
Validates the efficacy and safety of pure biomolecules for specific applications in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and recycling sectors.
Sustainability (LCA & TEA)
Evaluates the environmental impact and economic viability of project processes through Life Cycle and Techno-Economic Assessments.
Communication, Dissemination & Exploitation
Manages stakeholder engagement, intellectual property rights, and the strategic roadmap for the commercial use of project results.
Project Management
Ensures the overall administrative, financial, and operational coordination of the consortium to meet project milestones.
Ethics Requirements
Ensures that all research activities strictly adhere to the ethical standards and safety regulations set by the European Commission.
