On June 16, 2025, the EXPLORA project meeting marked a key moment in the project’s early progress. All 13 partners gathered online to reflect on the achievements of the first six months and plan for the next phase.
The EXPLORA project, funded under Horizon Europe and SERI, explores aquatic extremophiles to develop sustainable industrial applications using biotechnology. This M6 milestone serves as a midpoint on the road to the first annual review, highlighting our growing momentum.
What was discussed at the EXPLORA Project meeting?
During the session, all work package leaders shared updates. The meeting focused on:
-
Current progress in scientific and technical activities (WP1–WP6)
-
Alignment on communication and dissemination strategies (WP7)
-
Enhancing synergies between research, outreach, and exploitation
-
Defining next steps to maintain momentum and meet upcoming deliverables
Key outcomes
Thanks to clear coordination and active engagement from all partners, the project has:
-
Met its Month 6 goals across all core areas
-
Strengthened collaboration across technical and communication teams
-
Reinforced commitment to transparency, open science, and sustainability
As we move forward, these shared values will support the delivery of impactful results for science, industry, and society.
What’s next?
Looking ahead, EXPLORA will continue focusing on:
-
Advancing technical pilots and ecosystem sampling (Rio Tinto and Antarctica)
-
Increasing outreach through scientific publications and policy briefs
-
Maintaining clear communication with stakeholders across Europe
These actions support our mission to unlock the potential of extremophiles for greener technologies in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, recycling, and more.
